Iranian officials have attended gathering to commemorate the national day of great Persian poet Hafez.

Iranian cultural and political figures have attended gathering to commemorate the national day of great Persian poet Hafez.

The ceremony was held in Iranian city of Shiraz where the Persian mystical poetry master is laid to rest.

Head of Iran Cultural Heritage, Handicrafts and Tourism Organization, Ali Asghar Mounesan, as well as some political and cultural officials and figures were also present at the ceremony.

The event attended by national and international audience marked the national day of Hafez in Iran which falls on October 12 this year.

The Hafez works are widely considered as the essence of the Iranian culture. Although the 14-century poet’s full name is Shamseddin Mohammad, he is known with his pen-name Hafez, which means the one who memorizes a book.

Hafez was given the title, because he could recite the holy Quran completely by heart.
